A private translator that runs entirely in your browser

Offline Translator turns text from one language into another right inside your browser, across 43 languages. It runs Meta's NLLB-200 multilingual model on your own device, so the words you translate are never uploaded to a cloud service, there's no account to create, and there's no per-character cost. After the one-time model download it even works with the internet switched off — which makes it genuinely useful on a flight, while travelling on patchy mobile data, or whenever you'd rather not send a sensitive message, contract or medical note to someone else's server.

Detect, translate, and hear it back

Leave auto-detect on and you can paste text in any supported language without choosing the source first — the tool reads the script and the most common words and sets it for you. Pick your target language, press Translate, and the result appears beside your text. The read-aloud buttons use your browser's built-in voices to speak either side out loud, which is handy for checking pronunciation before you say a phrase yourself. Every translation is saved to a private history on your device, so you can tap an earlier one to bring it straight back.

Built for real documents, not just single phrases

When you need to move beyond a sentence at a time, Pro adds batch translation: paste a whole document and it's split into paragraphs (or lines) and translated piece by piece with a live progress count, then exported as plain text, a side-by-side bilingual file, Markdown, CSV or JSON. A phrasebook keeps the translations you reuse — travel phrases, canned support replies, recurring product copy — one tap away, and a custom glossary forces brand names, people's names and technical jargon to come out exactly the way you want every time. Everything still happens on your device.

Why on-device translation matters

Most free translators send your text to a remote server, which is fine for a menu but not for a client contract, a private message or anything covered by confidentiality. Running the model locally keeps your words on your machine and removes the usage limits and metering that cloud tools impose. The trade-off is a one-time model download; after that, translation is fast, free and unlimited. For everyday text across many languages the quality is strong, though, like any machine translation, it can miss nuance or idiom — so review important text before relying on it.

Frequently asked questions

Is this translator really free and private?
Yes — translation runs in your browser on an on-device AI model, so your text is never uploaded. No signup, no per-use cost.
How many languages are supported?
43, across Latin, Cyrillic, Arabic, Devanagari and CJK scripts — including English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Russian, Arabic, Hindi, Chinese (Simplified & Traditional), Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, Thai, Swahili and Māori.
Does it work offline?
After the first translation downloads the model (~340 MB) it's cached, so the translator keeps working with the internet off — useful for travel and flights.
What does auto-detect do?
With auto-detect on, the tool inspects the script and common words of your input and sets the source language automatically, so you can paste any supported language and just press Translate.
Can it read the translation out loud?
Yes — the read-aloud buttons use your browser's built-in voices to speak the input or the translation. Available voices depend on your device.
What does Pro add?
Batch / document translation, an export suite (TXT, bilingual, Markdown, CSV, JSON), a saved phrasebook and a custom glossary for names and jargon — all still on your device.
Note: Translations are generated automatically and may miss nuance, idiom or context — review important, legal or medical text before relying on it. The model downloads from a CDN on first use and is then cached for offline use; all processing happens in this browser and nothing you translate is uploaded.
